A team of researchers from the Department of Soil Science conducted a workshop on “Creating awareness and obtaining feedback on novel nitrogen and phosphorous biofertlizers developed for paddy cultivation”

A team of researchers from the Department of Soil Science conducted a workshop on “Creating awareness and obtaining feedback on novel nitrogen and phosphorous biofertlizers developed for paddy cultivation” on 21st October at the Rice Research and Development Institute (RRDI) at Bathalegoda. The biofertilizer products were developed as part of the target oriented research project on “Development of Eco-friendly farming technologies to minimize inorganic fertilizer usage while maintaining productivity and improving soil fertility” funded by the National Research Council of Sri Lanka. The workshop was attended by representatives from the Department of Agriculture, who are involved in research on nutrient management in rice, vegetables and other field crops. rom the Department of Soil Science, Dr. Wajira Balasooriya from Wayamba University of Sri Lanka and Ms. Upul Rathnayake from RRDI served as the resource persons. The biofertilizer products introduced at the workshop were developed by the research teams led by Dr. Warshi Dandeniya and Dr. Wajira Balasooriya with the involvement of Ms. Upul Rathnayake, Ms. Imaya Amarawansha (M.Phil. Student at Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture) and a number of undergraduate students from Department of Soil Science of University of Peradeniya and Department of Biotechnology of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.
