The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, led a comprehensive food flow mapping project for seven commodities—paddy/rice, maize, potato, beans, banana, chicken meat, and marine fish—across the 25 districts of Sri Lanka. The summary of the study is detailed in a technical report focusing on the Colombo City Region Food System. The outcome of the study will support policymakers in enhancing food quality, affordability, and efficiency by reducing food miles and losses. Prof. Buddhi Marambe led the project involving multiple universities, the Department of Agriculture, FAO, and IWMI. It analyzed food flow adjustments during COVID-19 and under climate change. Financial support from FAO’s “City Region Food Systems Programme” and IWMI's "Data analysis and food flow mapping across 25 administrative districts in Sri Lanka"
enabled in-depth data collection and analysis, with a full report covering all districts currently in preparation.
