Dean’s Message

Welcome to the Premiere Faculty of Agriculture in Sri Lanka.

Welcome to the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka’s premier institution for agricultural education since 1948. With a legacy of over 75 years, we are proud to lead the way in advancing agricultural knowledge, innovation, and practice.

Our distinguished academic team, comprising 137 dedicated members, includes 75% with PhDs from globally recognized universities and a significant number of Professors, reflecting our commitment to excellence in education and research. The Faculty is home to eight academic departments and several specialized centres, providing students with diverse pathways to shape their careers. 

We offer three comprehensive four-year degree programs: B.Sc. in Agricultural Technology & Management; B.Sc. in Food Science & Technology; and B.Sc. in Animal Science & Fisheries, welcoming 345 students annually. All three degree programs offered by the Faculty received A grades in the last UGC Programme Review (2019/2020), highlighting their exceptional quality and standards.

Our students enjoy a comprehensive educational journey enriched by world-class teaching, cutting-edge research opportunities, and hands-on training at farm locations and experimental stations. With English as the medium of instruction, our programs are designed to develop critical skills in laboratory work, field practice, problem-solving, and teamwork, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the modern job market. Beyond academics, we foster active student engagement through extracurricular activities and provide robust advisory and counselling support. Adding a unique dimension, the Faculty recently introduced the Kiosk, a student-managed cafe offering part-time work opportunities for students. Students also benefit from cross-faculty interactions, enhancing their overall university experience. Many of our graduates pursue advanced degrees at prestigious universities worldwide, with an impressive near-100% employment rate soon after graduation. 

Research is at the heart of our Faculty, with faculty members engaged in groundbreaking projects that contribute to both national and international advancements. Our staff’s research excellence has earned them numerous awards, including the Presidential Award, and offers students the chance to collaborate on cutting-edge research.
