Agriculture Library Open Day 2026

The Library Committee of the Faculty of Agriculture will organize the Agriculture Library Open Day-2026 for the third consecutive year. This annual event will be held on 17 September, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Agriculture Library and Appadurai Auditorium, University of Peradeniya. This year, 100 students and their teachers from 20 schools across five educational zones in the Kandy and Matale districts are invited. Each school will be represented by five Grade 12 Biology and Agriculture students and one teacher, ensuring a dynamic and enriching educational experience.

The main objective of this initiative is to raise awareness among Advanced Level Biology and Agriculture students about the comprehensive academic resources available at the Agriculture Library and to encourage their effective use as they pursue higher education in agriculture. The program also aims to provide insights into the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Peradeniya. In line with the program, an inter-school Library Quest Challenge will also be held, in which teams of five students will participate in a guided exploration of library resources. Winning schools will receive valuable books as a token of appreciation.

The event will be graced by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, the Librarian of the University of Peradeniya, as well as academic and non-academic staff members of the Library and the Faculty of Agriculture. Furthermore, a motivational speech will be delivered to the students by Prof. Chalinda Beneragama an eminent academic in the field of Crop Science from the Department of Crop Science of University of Peradeniya.

Visit of Academic Delegation from the Faculty of Agriculture, Gyeongsang National University, South Korea

The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, had the distinct honor of welcoming an academic delegation from the Faculty of Agriculture at Gyeongsang National University, South Korea, on the 24th of August 2026.

The primary focus of this distinguished visit was to explore and strengthen avenues for collaborative research and prospective postgraduate study opportunities between the Faculty of Agriculture and Gyeongsang National University. The high-level discussion, held at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, was attended by Prof. Barana Jayawardana, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, along with members of the academic staff. 

In addition to the collaborative discussions, the visit provided a valuable platform for final-year undergraduate research students to engage directly with international experts. This session offered the students expert guidance and valuable insights regarding prospective postgraduate study opportunities available at the partner institution.

Visit of Director of the Postgraduate Program at the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, The University of Tokyo, Japan

The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, had the distinct honor of welcoming Prof. Mitsuo Yamamoto, Professor and Director of the Postgraduate Program at the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, The University of Tokyo, and former Vice-Chancellor of University of Colombo Prof. H.D. Karunarathna, Senior Professor of Business Economics on 21st August 2026.

The primary focus of this distinguished visit was to explore and strengthen avenues for academic cooperation between the Faculty of Agriculture and The University of Tokyo. The high-level discussion was attended by Prof. Barana Jayawardana, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, along with over twenty senior academics from the Faculty.

In addition to the collaborative discussions, the visit featured an informative seminar tailored for recent graduates of the Faculty of Agriculture. This session provided the graduates with valuable insights and expert guidance regarding prospective postgraduate study opportunities available at The University of Tokyo.

Faculty of Agriculture Celebrates the Department of Food Science and Technology’s Success at Profood Propack 2026

The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, proudly announces the outstanding achievements of students from the Department of Food Science and Technology at Profood Propack 2026. Held at the BMICH from August 21st to 23rd, 2026, this event provided an excellent stage for undergraduates to showcase their talents to the public and the industry.

The students brought great honor to the Faculty by securing top positions in key competitions organized by the Institute of Food Science and Technology Sri Lanka (IFSTSL):

• Champions: FoodSci Quest 2026 (Inter-University Quiz Competition)

• People's Choice Award: 3MT Flash Talk Challenge

Beyond the competitions, the Department’s exhibition stall was a major highlight of the event. The busy and engaging space drew a large crowd of visitors who highly appreciated the interactive activities and the innovative new food products developed by the students.

These achievements clearly reflect the hard work, talent, and innovative spirit of the students and staff. The Faculty extends its warmest congratulations to the winning teams and thanks the IFSTSL for providing such a valuable platform for university students.
