The 1st National Symposium on Sustainable Nitrogen management – 2023

The Sri Lankan Government, through the Colombo Declaration of the UNEP, has pledged to reduce Nitrogen (N) waste by 50% by the end of year 2030. In order to find out ways and means of doing this, the UKRI GCRF South Asian Nitrogen Hub is conducting several programs in different South Asian countries bringing together experts from over 32 leading research organizations from across South Asia and the UK. The program lead by Prof. S.P. Nissanka of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, is conducting the 1^st National Symposium on Sustainable Nitrogen Management in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and various other stakeholders. The Symposium (SNM-2023) is scheduled to be held on 22nd-23rd June 2023 at the Grand Monarch Hotel, Thalawathugoda. The SNM-2023 aims to develop a National Action Plan for sustainable N Management, to assess current N status and national N budget, identify the policy gaps, to share knowledge and experience on N research. The symposium is one of the events organized to mark the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya.

iPURSE-F 2023 – The Panel discussion

The panel discussion is on the Economic crisis and its ripple effect on Sri Lankan Agriculture.

The panel discussion is moderated by Prof. Buddhi Marambe, a Senior Professor of the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya.

Our panelists are,

• Emeritus professor, Prof. H.W. Cyril, Chairman of the National Livestock Development Board
• Dr. Herath Gunathilaka, Executive Director of the Center for Poverty Analysis.
• Dr. D.M.W. Weerakoon, Senior Agriculture Specialist at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Sri Lanka
• Prof. Renuka Silva, Professor of Nutrition, at the Department of Applied Nutrition, Faculty of Livestock, Fisheries & Nutrition, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.

Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, Diamond Jubilee Grand Finale celebration was at Waters Edge, Battaramulla, on December 20, 2023. It's a  heartfelt tribute to our lifelong partners who've made our journey extraordinary.

Indeewari 2024

The undergraduates of the faculty of Agriculture, annually organize the musical extravaganza, 'Indeewari' with the support of the university and the faculty community. It is organized with the aim of raising funds for the Needy Students’ Scholarship which benefits over 100 faculty students in need of financial assistance. In addition, funds are allocated for ‘Reli Bimen Sama Bimata’ educational program which assists school children in rural areas. Indeewari 2024 will be held on the 20^th of March 2024 which would be performed by Wayo, T.M Jayarathna, Indrachapa Liyanage and Raini Gunathilaka. The show would be held in the University Gymnasium from 7 pm onwards.

Faculty of Agriculture Celebrates its Diamond Jubilee

The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, celebrated its 75th anniversary on July 4, 2023. The event was held at the Animal Science Auditorium in Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya. The event was attended by faculty members, students, alumni, and other dignitaries.

The logo for the Diamond Jubilee celebration was designed by Pamodha Chathumal of the 2017/18 batch.

The Championship of the Agriculture Premier League 2023

The Faculty Cricket team has won the Championship of the Agriculture Premier League 2023 which was held during 1^st to 2^nd April 2023 at Makandura Premises, Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, over seven agriculture faculties in the island.

The University of Peradeniya, a premier Sri Lankan academic institution, world renowned for excellence in teaching and research, continues to open up its annual research sessions as a wider and international forum – iPURSE 2023.
