Student Representation at the Asia-Pacific Youth Parliament for Water (APYPW), Korea


Mr. Asanka Wijesekara, one of the final year students of the Faculty of Agriculture represented Sri Lanka at the Asia-Pacific Youth Parliament for Water (APYPW) which was held from 4th to 7th July 2016 at the Daegu Gyeong-buk Institute of Science & Technology (DGIST), Daegu, Republic of Korea. Seventy eight delegates representing 24 countries took part in the APYPW and Mr. Asanka was one of the two students participated from Sri Lanka. The APYPW provides a platform for young leaders selected from across the Asia-Pacific countries to have in-depth discussions and to find solutions for water-related issues. The APYPW aims to raise awareness on water and environmental challenges by encouraging participants from the Asia-Pacific region. At the end of the session, the delegates prepared a declaration which encompasses raising public awareness and education on water-related issues through social media. It is basically geared toward developing young professionals to grow as potential leaders in the field of global water and environment.
