Agriculture Library Open Day-2026

The Library Committee of the Faculty of Agriculture organized the Agriculture Library Open Day-2026 for the third consecutive year. The event took place on 17 September 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Agriculture Library and Appadurai Auditorium, University of Peradeniya. One hundred students and their teachers from 20 schools across five educational zones in the Kandy and Matale districts attended. Each school was represented by five Grade 12 Biology and Agriculture students and one teacher, fostering a dynamic educational experience.

The initiative aimed to raise awareness among Advanced Level Biology and Agriculture students about the academic resources available at the Agriculture Library and to encourage their effective use for higher education. The program also introduced stud

ents to the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Peradeniya. As part of the event, an inter-school Library Quest Challenge guided teams of five students through library resources. Winning schools received books as tokens of appreciation. Distinguished guests included the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Barana Jayawardana; the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, Snr. Prof. D.K.N.G. Pushpakumara; the Librarian of the University of Peradeniya, Dr. R. Maheshwaran; Heads of academic departments of the Faculty of Agriculture; members of the Library Committee; and academic and non-academic staff. Prof. Chalinda Beneragama from the Department of Crop Science also delivered a motivational speech to the students.
