On May 23, 2025, the 2019 batch of Development Communication and Organizational Management majors from the Department of Agricultural Extension, University of Peradeniya, successfully carried out a Productivity Enhancement Training (PET) program at the Community Center in Kalapura, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka.
This initiative aimed to promote sustainable agriculture and deepen community engagement through practical knowledge sharing. Seven students facilitated three concurrent training sessions from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM on the following key topics:
1. Enhancing Potato Cultivation with Biochar
2. Citrus Cultivation
3. Intro. to Pomegranate Cultivation
A total of 50 community members actively participated, gaining valuable insights and hands-on experience. As part of the outreach effort, participants received citrus and pomegranate plant
s, educational leaflets, and the opportunity to test their soil pH levels.
This program not only fostered sustainable farming practices but also strengthened the connection between university students and farming communities.Dr. Sandaruwan Subasinghe coordinated the PET course. Dr. Anuradha Jayaweera and Dr. Kumudu Ariyawanse graced the event.
