Theory 

• Genetic mechanisms (DNA replication, repair, recombination, gene, genome organization, gene expression), genomes, transcriptomes, proteomes, eukaryotic nuclear genomes, genomes of prokaryotes and eukaryotic organelles, virus genomes, and mobile genetic elements.
• Useful molecular biological techniques, such as DNA, RNA extraction, PCR, quantitative PCR, primer design, gel electrophoresis, genotyping techniques, bioinformatics, next generation sequencing techniques, sequencing genomes and understanding sequence data, RNAseq, NCBI resources, molecular phylogenetics, gene cloning, microarrays, and directed mutagenesis.
• Gene regulation, gene expression, manipulation of gene expression, gene silencing (RNAi and other), gene editing, genetically modified organisms, Biosafety related topics and experimental model system.

Practical

• Basic Molecular Techniques: (DNA extraction-plant, blood and microbial), Primer design, PCR, Gel electrophoresis, Demonstration on RNA extraction
• Cloning Techniques: Competent cells preparation, Restriction Enzyme digestion, Ligation, Transformation, Screening of transgenic colonies
• Bioinformatics: NCBI Resources & other Bioinformatics databases, File formats, Gene, Genomes sequence alignment & Phylogenetic analysis (Need to bring your own laptops. Internet facility is available)
• Agrobacterium mediated gene transformation, Gene gun, Transgenic detection
• Demonstration on Oxford Nanopore sequencing: Library preparation, Sequencing and data analysis
• Visit to laboratory with high-end facilities designed for GMO detection & Identification
