Food and agricultural sector in Sri Lanka needs professionals trained in disease management with a sound background in microbiology to meet the demands stipulated by F.A.O. and W.H.O. for the industry. The advanced module in Plant Pathology and Microbiology is designed to provide a sound knowledge on the basic principles relating to molecular and cellular biology of plant pathogens and beneficial microorganisms, as well as their impacts on other organisms and their environment. In addition, the students will have proficiency in laboratory and communication skills. It is envisaged that a student upon completion of this advanced module will be able to acquire and articulate specialized knowledge and skills relevant to plant diseases and microorganisms and the ability to apply them to solve problems and contemporary issues in plant pathology and microbiology.
