Prof. Buddhi Marambe receives the "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the International Weed Science Society (IWSS)

The International Weed Science Society (IWSS), established in 1975 is the supreme academic body of all weed scientists in the world. The IWSS hold its conference once in four years. The 8th International Weed Science Conference (IWSC) was held on Bangkok, Thailand from 4-9 December 2022, after being postponed from its originally scheduled year of 2020, due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The IWSS recognizes the contribution of Weed Scientists around the globe at its conferences. Lifetime achievements in the field of Weed Science, contribution to the development of Weed Science, contribution to the policy developments are some of the criteria used to select weed scientists for the award. This award is made once in four years under the title "Lifetime Achievement Award". The distinguished weed scientists from the world are selected by the International Awards Co


mmittee of the IWSS, after assessing the individual contributions. There is no call for applications in selecting scientists for this award.

Accordingly, Prof. Buddhi Marambe, a Senior Professor of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka has been awarded the prestigious "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the IWSS. The award was presented to him at a galanarous awarding ceremony held at the Marriot Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand on 8 December 2022. This year Prof Marambe was the Weed Scientist who was honoured from the south and southeast Asian region with this once-in-a-lifetime award.
