Nutrie Pool - Food Bank

A noteworthy project that the Community Development Unit is a part of is the first "Nutrie Pool," a food bank initiative formed with the goal of improving the nutritional status and ensuring food security of a group of garment sector employees in the Udupussellawa area. On August 26, 2022, the project was launched at the premises of Aburnet Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. Dr. Anjuradha Jayaweera, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Dr. Rasanjali Samarakoon, from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Mr. Sudath Nagashena, the Manager of Aburnet Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, and some other government representatives took part in the event.

The Nutrie Pool held its grand opening on April 7, 2023. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. Sarath Kodithuwakku, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture. Nandana galabada, the

District Secretariat of Nuwara Eliya District, the Director of Education and the Assistant Director of Education, Walapane Division, Officials from Walapane Police Station, the Trading community of Walapane Division, and a lot of other parties all contributed to the success of the event.
