Krushi 2023 - Farmer Training and Exhibition

‘Krushi’ -2023 Annual farmer training and exhibition organized by the first year students of the Faculty of Agriculture was held successfully at the Mahailuppallama Sub Campus on 19th of January 2023 as a community engagement and also as an academic event of the course EX 1101 Development Extension.

Prof. Sarath S. Kodithuwakku, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture ,University of Peradeniya was the chief guest for the event. There were 21 exhibition stalls, including Correct harvesting technologies, farm budgeting, sprinkler and drip irrigation system, weed control in paddy cultivation, green house and hydroponic, coconut cultivation, gene technology, organic fertilizer production, agriculture information sources and communication method, new trends in agriculture and technology uses, tissue culture, bio-char, good agricultural practice


s, Food stall  traditional ingredient, seed treatment, home gardening, nursery management, cattle feeding, chena cultivation, under utilized fruits and vegetables and a traditional food stall etc. giving a wider coverage to the subjects learn by students for the Agriculture Technology and management degree.

Prof. W.A.P. Weerakkody Senior Professor, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, and Chairman of the National Institute of of Post Harvest Management conducted a session on protected agriculture to the participants. Around 500 participants including school children, farming community ,and government officials from the Agrarian Service Centres of Katiyawa and Ipalogama, Coconut Development Board participated at the event. Overall, the farmer training organized by agricultural undergraduates could have a positive impact on both farmers and the undergraduates  as a whole, by helping to transfer knowledge, develop skills, build networks, increase capacity, and drive innovation.
