Supplementary Skill-Building Program

'Supplementary Skill-Building Program' was conducted by Mr. Asantha Kalyananda, CEO of Third Shift Media; the session focused on equipping students with vital tools and techniques for effective program design and workshop planning. The program aims to empower these students to excel in future careers that emphasize managing and engaging with diverse stakeholders and social groups. The choice of the Media Incubator Space for the session as the venue proved ideal, fostering an atmosphere where undergraduates could freely and comfortably engage in discussions, thanks to its non-conventional setting.

SCAB Module 03 - Anticipatory Action Approach in Disaster Management

On May 31, 2024, our Incubator Space hosted an enriching SCAB module, 'Anticipatory Action Approach in Disaster Management,' led by Ms. Ganga Kariyawasam from the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society. This session empowered Agricultural Extension students with cutting-edge skills to tackle future crises.

Galkadapathana School visit to UOP

On July 25th, 2024, the Community Development Unit of the Faculty of Agriculture, in collaboration with World Vision Sri Lanka, organized an educational tour for 38 students from grades 6 to 11 at Senerathpura Vidyalaya, Walapane. The tour included visits to the University Farm at Uda Peradeniya, Kiyota Coffee Company (PVT) Ltd., and the Agro Technology Park in Gannoruwa, facilitated by agriculture extension students from the 18th batch. These students led interactive team-building and motivational programs to engage the school participants in agriculture. The event allowed the extension students to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical situations, enhancing their leadership, communication, and collaboration skills while inspiring younger students to consider careers in agriculture.

Documentary shooting on "Ankeliya" at Paanama

The documentary on Ankeliya, filmed in Paanama village, Sri Lanka, delves into a traditional folk sport with deep cultural and religious roots. This unique event, held in honour of Goddess Pattini, involves a symbolic tug-of-war using Andara tree horns, symbolizing the community's strength and unity. Produced by the Audio Visual Team of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, and coordinated by Dr. Anuradha Jayaweera, the film captures the ritual’s role in promoting peace and prosperity, providing a window into Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage.

Saga University Student Group Visit

The department hosted an overseas training program in partnership with the University of Saga, Japan, focusing on "The Role of Japanese FDI and ODA in Achieving the SDGs in Developing Countries: The Experience of Sri Lanka." Extension majoring students engaged in sustainable development activities alongside Saga University undergraduates. Highlights included visits to the Peradeniya Botanical Garden for ecological conservation, Labookellie Tea Factory for insights into the tea industry, and JICA-funded projects on waste management and urban development. A session led by Mr. Yamada Tetsuya from JICA Sri Lanka covered agricultural initiatives. Coordinated by Prof. Saliya De Silva and Dr. Anuradha Jayaweera, the program fostered cross-cultural learning and professional networking.
