Workshop on Introduction to CGE Modelling for Policy Analysis – The GTAP Model

  • It was successfully held on 9th April 2021 for the members of Sri Lanka Forum of University Economists (SLFUE).
  • The main focus of the workshop was on the usage of the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) model.
  • Discussions on ‘the usage of Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models in quantitative policy analysis’ and ‘ways and means of incorporating CGE models into undergraduate and postgraduate curriculums’ had been held during the workshop.

Present and Future Prospects of Nanotechnology in Food & Agriculture; Leading Towards Innovations

  • The forum was held on 8th April 2021 via Zoom platform for third and final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya.

Stakeholder Workshops for Agriculture Officers

  • This was conducted under the project, 'New marketing options and guidelines for agro-biodiversity and food with high nutritional value identified and developed' in 2018. The project was funded by Biodiversity for Food and Nutrition (BFN) Sri Lanka, Department of Agriculture.

Capacity Building of Agribusiness Management Education in Sri Lanka

  • This was a capacity building programme on Agribusiness Education targeting four main areas namely, Entrepreneurship, Value Chain Management, E-Commerce and Human Resource Management.
  • It was held at Thiagarajar School of Management, Madurai, India in 2018.

Short Course on Business Law

  • A short course on Business Law was conducted for the undergraduates of the Faculty of Agriculture on 10th August 2019 at the Faculty Boardroom.
  • The resource person was Dr. Mahasena Senanayaka and students could experience business implementation of the day’s outline during this course.

Market Linking for Potential Floriculture Growers (Anthurium Cultivation)

  • The Agribusiness Centre conducted its second training workshop for the members of the Central Province Women’s Chamber of Small Industries and Commerce on ‘Anthurium cultivation and forming market linkages’ on 6th January 2021.

Market Linking for Potential Floriculture Growers (Orchid Cultivation)

  • The training session on ‘Orchid cultivation and forming market linkages’ was conducted by the Agribusiness Centre for the members of the Central Province Women’s Chamber of Small Industries and Commerce on 8th September 2020.
  • This was an activity of the supporting programme for the Agro-enterprise community in the area by the Agribusiness Centre.

Investment Opportunities for Entrepreneurial Graduates

  • Agribusiness Center together with the EVOKE society had organized a two-day workshop on Stock market operations. This was organized under AHEAD- Innovations Commercialization Enhancement (ICE) Project.
  • The resource person of the workshop was Mr. Dhananjaya Abeysiriwardhana, Manager Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), Kandy branch.
  • Comprehensive knowledge on investing in the stock-market, benefits of investment, reaching out to assistants and online trading were delivered to the participants.

Tapping the Untapped Market with Innovations

  • Agribusiness Centre together with the EVOKE society had organized a workshop on ‘Tapping the untapped market with innovations’ under AHEAD- Innovations Commercialization Enhancement Project. It was held on 20th January 2021 via Zoom.
  • The aim of the event was to enhance entrepreneurial skills of the undergraduates of the Faculty of Agriculture.
  • The resource person, Mr. Daminda Geeganage, CEO EMP PVC Technology encouraged delegates for business start-ups by sharing his experience.
