The Faculty of Agriculture Undergraduate Research Symposium (FAuRS – 2016)) is scheduled to be held on December 16, 2016. The FAuRS, the concerted effort of the Faculty of Agriculture, providesa common platform for the graduands from all Departments of Studyof the Faculty to communicate the results of their final year research projects conducted during the last semester of the academic program. It is held for the third consecutive time in 2016.
This symposium will also set a stage to share the research findings with a broad group of stakeholders, especially from the industry, will also set the stage for the prospective employers to identify competent and budding graduates that would fit in well to the competitive world of challenges and opportunities.
The abstracts of all research projects completed by undergraduate students during the last semester are published in the proceedings of the FAuRS which is issued on the day of the symposium. In addition, the FAuRS-2016 has opened six competitions to reward the most talented budding researches produced by the Faculty of Agriculture this year. It is also expected that the competitions provide incentives to gradunds to learn to prepare and present appropriate analytical results for specialist as well as non-specialist audience. Thus, the FAuRS-2016 has organised six competition categories with the aim of capturing students with different talents in research communication.
Awards for the best oral presentations: Twenty eight students will get chances through a tight evaluation process to make oral presentations on their research findings to panels of specialists in their fields under four themes. The best oral presentation at each session will be rewarded with cash prizes and the overall best presenter will be rewarded with a gold medals.
Awards for the best poster presentations: Twenty eight students will get chances to make poster presentations on their research findings to panels of specialists in their fields under four themes. The best poster presentation will be rewarded with a cash prize.
Award for the best innovation: The abstracts of all the students will be evaluated and short listed to identify research projects with innovative potential. The short listed abstracts will be evaluated by a panel of judges to select the research project with the highest innovative capacity and will be rewarded.
Awards for the best research briefs: Students are given opportunities to draft research briefs to disseminate their most important research findings to the non-specialists in the language of their choice. Among the submission made, the best research briefs in each language will be rewarded with cash prizes. All the research briefs will be published and disseminated to a wider audience.
Awards for the best research videos: Students are given opportunities to produce research videos to disseminate their most important research findings to the non-specialists.Among the submission made, the best research videos will be telecasted at the closing ceremony of FAuRS and the producers will be rewarded with cash prizes.
Awards for the best scientific photographs: Students are given opportunities to produce scientific photographs to showcase an aspect of their research project to a wider-audience. The photographs selected for the final round will be displayed at the FAuRS venue and the owners of the best photographs will be rewarded with cash prizes.
With all these efforts the Faculty aims to bring the research and communication talents of graduands to a platform where they can gain a height to reach the world beyond the boundaries through the FAuRS every year.
